Family-friendly and located at the 700 block of Laurel Street – an easy walk from 1501 Cherry Street – this market takes place year-round each Sunday from 10AM to 2PM.

This well-established farmer’s market offers convenience, great food and an enjoyable Sunday experience that’s a highlight for the area. The stalls have a wide offering that includes fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables as well as daily staples like breads and eggs. There are also vendors that offer incredible flakey pastries and favorites like kettle corn, chocolate pecans and other treats! Specialist vendors are also in attendance with offerings of plants and flowers, freshly squeezed fruit juices, gluten-free products, honey and homemade jams. Wheeler Plaza and 1501 Cherry Street developments are two of the many construction projects that are going on in San Carlos, the city of good living. The City Council has created an advisory committee to address several homeowner concerns about potential “McMansion” single family builds that may occur. These are of special concern in well established San Carlos neighborhoods and where the subject property with potential construction may be on a smaller lot size. The committee, Single-Family House Advisory Committee or “SHAC”, has a few central focuses including but not limited to: making it easier to construct basements that are fully underground, addressing rear yards and privacy, new front yard setback requirements, increase building and porch setbacks, lowering height for one-story homes, covered parking and two car parking requirements and development on narrow and smaller lots.

SHAC met last fall and will meet again soon where all meetings are open to the public. Once SHAC reaches agreement on how rules should be changed then the City Staff organize a community meeting(s) to further review with City Residents. More can be learned at cityofsancarlos.org/singlefamilyhomes

Sometimes I wish I could press a Waze button to transport myself to work while sleeping in the electric car as it drives us to my parking garage. My guess is that level of self driving is at least 36 months away. Roll back the clock to today. What makes sense now and in the future : living near public transportation and easy access to the highways. Wheeler Plaza offers all of that with 12-15min drive to the Edgewood Interstate 280 on-ramps and a simple 3-4min drive to the 101 Holly Street on-ramps. Even more important is the San Carlos CalTrain station is a 5min walk from Wheeler Plaza. Buses and shuttles stop at the station too.
