1501 Cherry Street – Enjoy Hometown Days in San Carlos!

Hometown Days is a traditional festival held in Burton Park at 1017 Cedar, just a short walk or 2-minute drive from 1501 Cherry Street. This year it will be held on May 19-21, and the dedicated committee has been planning an exciting weekend that brings in locals as well as visitors from all over the Bay Area!

History of Hometown Days

The festival dates back to the fall of 1979, when a group of community volunteer members along with then-Mayor Pat Bennie created an event that aimed to bring people together across the community. The first event took place in September 1980 and it’s grown from strength to strength ever since, bringing in over 12,000 guests from every corner of an increasingly diverse community.

What Can You Expect to See at Hometown Days 2018?

This weekend is brimming with events for every age and interest. This includes – but is not limited to:

Live entertainment – There will be 3 stages featuring live performances from local bands, including indie bands and a High School Battle of the Bands.

Special attractions – Zip line across Burton Park, try and best the mechanical bull, conquer the rock wall, dare to try the Quad Bungee Jump or even walk on water! For younger children, there is also plenty to enjoy, from a train ride and Ferris wheel to a petting zoo and pony rides.

Health and wellness activities – Get in touch with your body with health awareness activities and screening, as well as fun activities and a 100-person drum circle.

Food and drink – There’s something for everyone from the locally-sponsored food and drink stalls, from classic burgers and a beer garden to tacos, ice cream, rootbeer floats, hotdogs and even traditional Hawaiian fare.

And much more – This weekend event has something for everyone, including a Rotary Club 5km fun run, market, pet parade, art stalls and skate park!

San Carlos is a great place to live in with nice shopping centers, beautiful houses, great schools and awesome parks. Burton Park has great features and wide range of amenities: horseshoe pits, picnic tables, and a large community center. It also boasts tennis and basketball courts, a softball field and best of all, clean bathrooms and street parking! Per Google maps and confirmed with our testing the park is an 11 minute walk from Wheeler Plaza’s Walnut Street entrance and a 7 minute walk from 1501 Cherry Street.

There are two separate play structures for toddlers and bigger kids. In the baby park area there are four large swings and baby swings that is fenced in, so parents can set their minds at ease. The older kids can enjoy a separate playground with a shaded climbing structure including slides and monkey bars.

Their dog park is also fantastic, with plenty of room to run and play with your pup!

Burton Park is a well-maintained park great for summer activities! There’s a little spot for shooting fountains and water play to help cool you and the kids down. The large grassy and shady areas are perfect for a picnic or birthday party on a hot day. There is a large stage that hosts free summer concerts on most Friday nights!

We had someone recently ask us what stores are closed due to the Wheeler Plaza build. Although Wheeler Plaza is still under construction, you can still visit eight stores located adjacent that will be open during construction. Tiernan Opticians Inc. and Family Vision Care ensure that your eyes are kept in tip top condition. Tiernan Opticians, a local establishment since the 70’s, stocks and manufactures their glasses right here in California! For those looking for more than the usual checkup, Family Vision Care offers state-of-the-art vision therapy treatments.

Need to update your spring wardrobe? Earthly Treasures features high-quality goods, such as clothing and bags, made by local designers. Gordon Aatlo Designs is a family-owned business with unique designs and beautiful craftsmanship along with expert jewelers to serve all your jewelry needs.
